Color Film shot during the Thanksgiving my grandma first moved into a nursing home. She was suffering from dementia, and for the first time her home she could no longer care for was left vacant. I photographed both her house, as well as the nursing home in the process of closing down in which she was now somehow the sole inhabitant of. I document my own family's experiences through this change through the filter of my grandmother's condition.
Before development, the 35mm film canisters were soaked in chemicals and alcohol to make a kind of simulacrum for my grandmother's dementia. The results give the images a blurred and weathered look. With this, the process of aging and destroying the film negatives becomes the art itself.
